Aviation Department

Since 1987 IKON has been training airline and military pilots

Our competent and dedicated staff will guide you to your desired license. We have trained several hundred flight students since the founding of IKON who fly with almost all airlines in the world.

Our proven training concept experienced teaching staff in theory and practice and our modern training aircraft create the basis for your professional future. IKON has been a member of the International Association of Airline Pilots Schools (IAAPS) since 1999.

We offer the following types of training

  • ATPL (air traffic pilot) for professional activities in the airline cockpit
  • CPL (professional pilot) for professional activity in aviation companies
  • IR (instrument flight authorization) for flights in problematic weather conditions – also for private pilots
  • FI (Instructor Authorization) – Training to become a flight instructor for private pilots, commercial pilots and instrument flight authorization
  • TR (Type Rating): Class and type rating
  • TRI (Type Rating Instructor): Type rating instructor certification
  • Class ratings for twin-engine aircraft
  • HPA (theoretical training for high performance aircraft)
  • Difference training for LearJet 60 / 60XR and Challenger 604/605
  • Workshops
  • Night flight qualification
  • Refresher training
  • Pinch hitter courses
  • Introductory courses in glass cockpits
  • Flight instructor training courses

Traffic pilot (ATPL)

The commercial pilot license according to the European training guidelines (JAR-FCL) entitles the holder to professional activity as a pilot or co-pilot on commercial aircraft. It is the highest flying license required to fly commercial aircraft (e.g. Airbus, Boeing) or business jets (e.g. Learjet, Challenger).

Variants of training
  • Integrated training for ATPL, i.e. training for traffic pilot for students without previous knowledge: ATPL ab initio
  • modular training for ATPL for private pilots (PPL): ATPL from PPL
  • modular training for ATPL for private pilots with instrument flight authorization: ATPL from PPL / IR
  • modular training for ATPL for professional pilots: ATPL from CPL
  • modular training for ATPL for professional pilots with instrument flight authorization: ATPL from CPL / IR
Entry requirements
  • Start of training: 17 years
  • License received: 21 years
  • Medical suitability: class 1
  • Proof of sufficient knowledge of mathematics, physics and English.

This knowledge is determined by the flight school. High School graduation is not necessarily a requirement.

Training content for training without prior knowledge

Theoretical training: 750 theory lessons in the following subject areas.

  • Air law
  • Human capacity
  • Aircraft customer
  • Meteorology
  • Electrical engineering
  • General navigation
  • Engines
  • Radio navigation
  • Instruments
  • Flight operations procedures
  • Mass and center of gravity
  • Aerodynamics
  • Flight performance
  • Aeronautical radio
  • Flight planning
  • Practical training
The continuous training is divided into 5 phases:

Phase 1: Training up to the first solo flight

Phase 2: Training up to the first solo cross-country flight

Phase 3: Training up to the navigation test according to visual flight rules

Phase 4: Training up to the CPL / IR flight test

Phase 5: Training in Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC)

For applicants with previous knowledge, reduced training can apply. In these cases, theoretical training can be completed with a correspondence course (additional close-up instruction 85 hours).

Professional pilot (CPL) modular

The commercial pilot license entitles you to work in commercial aviation. In contrast to the commercial pilot license, however, only aircrafts that are approved for operation with one pilot may be flown.

Entry requirements
  • Start of training: 17 years
  • License received: 21 years
  • Medical suitability: class 1
  • Proof of sufficient knowledge of mathematics, physics and English

This knowledge is determined by the flight school. High School graduation is not necessarily a requirement

  • 150 flight hours

  • Radio navigation
  • Human capacity
  • Meteorology
  • Engines
  • Instruments
  • Flight operations procedures
  • Mass and center of gravity
  • Aerodynamics

Practical training

15 hours of flight training on aircraft types DA40 and DA42. A total of 200 hours of flying experience on airplanes is required for the license to be issued.

Teaching license

15 hours of flight training on aircraft types DA40 and DA42. A total of 200 hours of flying experience on airplanes is required for the license to be issued.

Requirement for the acquisition of a TRI authorization on multi-pilot aircraft

  • 1500 hours of flight time on multi-pilot aircraft
  • 30 route sections on the aircraft type concerned within the last 12 months
Conversion CL 605

Differences training for pilots with type rating CL 604 to the newer aircraft type CL 605 (or vice versa). The course takes special account of the differences in the cockpit layout and in the avionics.

Course hours by individual arrangement.

Conversion Learjet 60XR

The difference training for pilots with type rating Learjet 60 to the new Learjet 60XR or vice versa. The retraining takes particular account of the essential differences in the cockpit layout, the avionics and the flight management system.

Course dates by individual arrangement.

2-mot class ratings and proficiency checks

Our training program also includes the acquisition of class ratings on twin-engine aircraft.

In addition, we offer the opportunity to carry out proficiency checks (check flights) for the extension of class ratings, type ratings and for the instrument flight rating on a wide variety of aircraft types. Proficiency checks are also possible on Citationjet (C 525), Cessna Citation (C500, 501, 550, 551, 560), Learjet (20/30 series, 55, 60), Canadair Challenger CL 604.

Workshops and seminars

In addition to the various types of training, we offer regular workshops on further training in aviation and training courses for flight instructors.

Also, we hold one-day introductory seminars on the European licensing regulations (JAR-FCL) and flight operations regulations (JAR-OPS) at short intervals. These seminars are compulsory for flight instructors, authorized instructors and flight examiners who want to work in accordance with European regulations. Furthermore, they meet the relevant requirements for converting national licenses to European licenses.
